IIENSTITU Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Policy (DEIP)

1) Purpose

This policy ensures equitable access to world-class education and institutional opportunities for all IIENSTITU students, faculty, and staff. Our aim is to maintain a learning community where every person—regardless of identity—feels respected, valued, and included.

2) Scope

Applies to all academic programs (online and on-site), student services, hiring and promotion, research and events, community rules (on campus and online), digital systems, and relationships with third parties.

3) Definitions

  • Diversity: The range of identities and perspectives (e.g., gender, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, nationality, language, religion/belief, age, disability, socioeconomic status, immigration/student status, etc.).

  • Equity: Fair access to opportunities and resources, including removing barriers and providing reasonable accommodations.

  • Inclusion: Practices that enable meaningful participation and belonging for everyone.

  • Discrimination & Harassment: Identity-based exclusion, hostile environment, abuse, or intimidation.

4) Principles & Commitments

  • Equal Opportunity: Fair access to learning, employment, and development for all community members.

  • Respect & Safety: Zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

  • Accessibility: Remove barriers in digital and physical environments; provide reasonable accommodations.

  • Participatory Culture: Promote dialogue, understanding, and collaboration across groups.

  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly assess and improve policies, processes, and practices.

  • Transparency & Accountability: Clearly publish rules, processes, and responsibilities.

5) Areas of Application

  • Academic Experience: Inclusive curriculum and assessment, representative examples, bias awareness.

  • Student Life: Equitable access to clubs, mentoring, advising, and wellbeing services.

  • Hiring & Careers: Neutral job posts, structured interviews, merit-based progression and development.

  • Events & Communications: Multilingual/material support; inclusive language and visuals.

  • Digital/Physical Access: Accessibility within LMS and web; reasonable adjustments in facilities.

  • Community Partnerships: Work with local organizations to provide additional support for students from diverse backgrounds.

6) Processes

6.1 Support & Reasonable Accommodation Requests

  • Requests are submitted via official channels (Student Support/HR/Accessibility).

  • Appropriate measures (time/place adjustments, alternative formats, assistive tech, etc.) are determined and communicated in writing.

6.2 Reporting, Complaints & Incident Management

  • DEI-related reports are received confidentially; retaliation is prohibited.

  • Rapid triage → investigation → decision & remedy/sanction → feedback steps are followed.

  • Counseling and safety measures are provided where needed.

6.3 Training & Awareness

  • Mandatory orientation (anti-bias, bystander intervention, microaggressions, inclusive conduct).

  • Annual refreshers; workshops on inclusive pedagogy and communication.

6.4 Dialogue & Community Programs

  • Mediation, dialogue series, culture days, and joint projects to foster mutual understanding.

  • Regular consultations with student associations and groups.

7) Roles & Responsibilities

  • Senior Leadership: Approves the policy, allocates resources, oversees institutional performance.

  • DEI Office/Committee: Leads implementation, measurement, training, and annual reporting.

  • Academic Units: Ensure inclusive curriculum/assessment and classroom culture.

  • HR/People Operations: Equal employment opportunity, fair hiring, and complaint processes.

  • IT/Accessibility: Digital accessibility standards and technical support.

  • All Members: Comply with the policy, act respectfully, and report concerns.

8) Measurement, Monitoring & Reporting

  • Example KPIs: Participation/achievement gaps, recruitment–admission and employment data, complaint resolution time, training completion, belonging scores.

  • Findings are shared in an Annual Diversity & Inclusion Report; corrective and preventive actions are tracked.

9) Sanctions

Policy breaches may lead to disciplinary measures up to and including separation, and/or contractual/legal remedies.

10) Privacy & Data Protection

All requests and reports are handled under confidentiality and shared only on a need-to-know basis. Personal data are processed and retained securely according to defined schedules.

11) Review & Effective Date

Reviewed at least annually and updated with stakeholder feedback.

Policy Summary

IIENSTITU implements equitable access, a safe environment, accessibility, and an inclusive culture through clear processes. We promote dialogue and collaboration across groups and partner with local organizations to provide additional support to students from diverse backgrounds. As a result, all members can realize their academic and personal potential without fear of bias or discrimination.
